The idea came from two parents at a gathering who had independently noticed the same gap: the hours between school finishing and a parent getting home.
Where it is up to
A venue has been secured for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Six sessions have run, with attendance between eight and fourteen. Two volunteers are supervising each session, and a homework-help roster is being put together.
What happens next
The pilot runs to the end of the term. If attendance holds, we apply for a small grant to cover the venue for a full year and hand the running of it to the parent group.
What would tell us it worked
Students choosing to come back without being sent, and parents who did not know us at the start trusting us with an afternoon.
