Eritrean Muslim Collective

You bring the idea.
We help you build it.

A collective for Eritrean Muslims in Australia. Nobody should have to start an organisation from scratch to act on something they care about — so we give you the framework, the workshops and the people, and the work stays yours.

How it works

Three steps, and the first one is a conversation.

  1. Bring us the idea

Something you have noticed, or something you have wanted to try. It does not need to be worked out — most arrive as a complaint.

  2. We help you shape it

A workshop, the framework we use ourselves, introductions to organisations already working nearby, and people who will volunteer alongside you.

  3. You run a pilot

Something small and real, with a date on it. If it works, we help it grow into something that keeps going — under your name, not ours.

Why a collective for Eritrean Muslims

The Eritrean community in Australia is well served by organisations that speak to it as a whole, and we are not duplicating that. But settling in, raising teenagers, finding work, ageing — most of it is not religious at its core, and none of it is separable from faith either. We build that perspective into a program from the start rather than adding it at the end.

How this started

We would rather collaborate than compete

Where an organisation already exists and does something well, the useful thing we can do is send people to it. Our community directory lists Eritrean Muslim organisations, mosques and services around Australia — including plenty we have nothing to do with — because somebody new to a city should be able to find out what is already here.

What is under way
